Improved Telecommunications Power Systems
CHALLENGE
Methode was asked to design a fuse panel that would increase current capacity, as well as reduce internal system temperature rise.
SOLUTION
Our team developed a bus bar that included discrete single conductors with laminated polyester insulation, which was customized to meet size specifications.
STORY
A telecommunications power distribution manufacturer required an improved fuse panel that would increase their system rating from 15A to 20A, giving them a competitive advantage. However, the existing discrete-wire system design would overheat and damage other components if pushed to 20A.
The manufacturer approached Methode for a solution. We designed a bus bar solution that would be able to handle the increased capacity and eliminate overheating. We also supplied a subassembly that included bus bars, fuse holders, mounting brackets, PC boards and terminal blocks to reduce the customer’s cycle time.
